Dublin (formerly, Amador and Dougherty's Station) is a suburban city of the East (San Francisco) Bay region of Alameda County, California, United States. Located along the north side of Interstate 580 at the intersection with Interstate 680, roughly 10 miles (16 km) east of Hayward, 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Livermore, directly north of Pleasanton, and 25 miles (40 km) north of San Jose, it was named after the city of Dublin in Ireland.[citation needed] The nearest major city is Oakland,
approximately 25 miles (40 km) to the west-northwest on Interstate 580.
Dublin is the second-fastest growing city in the state of California,
behind only Santa Clarita.[8] The population was 46,063 (2010 census), and the 2013 estimate at 49,890. It is forecasted that by 2030, the population will grow to about 75,900.[citation needed] Dublin is home to the headquarters of Sybase, Inc, now part of SAP AG, Tria Beauty,[9] Medley Health[10] and Arlen Ness.
The City of Dublin is a general law city operating under a City Council / City Manager form of local government. This form of government combines an elected mayor and council and an appointed local government administrator. The City Council elections are nonpartisan. The Mayor serves a two-year term, and Council members serve four-year terms.
The Mayor and City Council, as a collegial body, are responsible for setting policy, setting / prioritizing goals and objectives, and approving the budget. The Mayor, with confirmation by the City Council, makes appointments to the City's advisory commissions and committees.
